Thomas enjoys being an active educator in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. He holds a Bachelor of Music in music education and jazz studies from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University with specialization in teaching instrumental and vocal music.

He is an instrumental music teacher with the Durham District School Board, is a staff member at the Durham Integrated Arts Camp, and is an assistant director with the Durham Jazz organization. Thomas is also an avid private teacher, giving lessons to beginner, developing, intermediate and advanced musicians. He teaches private lessons on instruments such as saxophone, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and piano, and on topics including improvisation, audition preparation, composing, arranging and music theory. Thomas has previously held teaching positions with the University of Toronto Faculty of Music undergraduate association and the Oshawa Arts Resource Centre.

Throughout all the educational settings Thomas works in, he strives to provide students with a thoughtful and creative arts experience, where he encourages and inspires students to grow as artists and individuals. Thomas’ students have gone on to attend institutions including the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and Humber College Faculty of Creative Arts.
